The Book of Lost Things

Author: John Connolly

Publisher: New York : Atria Books, 2006

Annotation:

Set in modern times, this title features a young boy mourning over the recent death of his mother. Struggling to make sense of his grief and lacking support from his family, the main character David is further troubled by whispers from the books in his room. As things start to fall apart, David is pulled into a fantasy book where he must contend with fairy tales brought to life. Only these are a little darker than normal.

This atmospheric and richly detailed story doesn’t pull its punches and keeps the reader on the edge of their seat while rooting for David’s success in his quest to brave these nightmares. Due to its gruesome and dark scenes it is recommended that readers be at the upper end of the young adult range before looking at this book.
