This book is a fast-paced historical fiction set in an
alternate version of 1985 Britain where literature has come to life and
interest groups fight against each other to control the plot. The main
character is a literary detective who must venture into the world of Jane Eyre
by Charlotte Bronte in order to save the titular character from being erased.
This novel features an intricately plotted storyline with a
likeable, strong female and makes extensive use of its dramatic and sardonic
tone with its witty writing. This book is the first in a series of 7 books and
won the 2002 IAFA William L. Crawford Fantasy Award as well as nominations in
several others.
